MUMBAI: He may have taken on the Pope but Swami Agnivesh will now follow the orders of Bigg Boss. The latest entrant on the reality show claims he’s going into the house to make the women aware of the “pathetic condition” of the girl child in society.
“The girls inside the house don’t seem to have any social responsibility,” the 72-year-old activist told TOI. “I want to make them realize just how many girl children are killed in the womb and how many women are burnt alive in the name of sati,” he added.
Agnivesh said he has taken on the task of getting into the house as a challenge and will be successful in sensitizing the women.
Didn’t he care about his public image taking a beating by getting on to a reality show? “Not at all,” Agnivesh promptly said. “Initially, when I asked some people if I should consider the offer, 90% discouraged me. But after I watched some episodes of the show, I realized I could create awareness among the women.” Though he claimed to have no favourites, the activist seemed to be impressed with the manner in which Pooja Bedi and Laxmi Tripathi were behaving on the show.
Any apprehensions about staying with the inmates of the house? “If I can stay with the Maoists, I can definitely stay with these people,” Agnivesh said. The duration of the activist’s stay in the Bigg Boss house is uncertain. “There is no fixed time for which I am going to be in the house,” he told TOI. “I am going inside with an open mind.” Speaking about his fallout with anti-corruption Anna Hazare, Agnivesh said, “Several others have gone against Anna and that is because of the people around him. There is a lot of truth in what Raju Parulekar is saying.”
