A woman’s body parts, packed in two bags, were found at two locations — four kilometres apart — in Southwest Delhi on Thursday.

Police said while the torso was found in a bag near Naraina flyover, the remaining parts were found near Janak Vihar, Todapur. The unidentified woman appears to be between the age of 30 and 35 years, police said.

Police received two calls, 20 minutes apart, informing about the bags. “The first call was made around 4.40 pm from Naraina; the second came from Janak Vihar around 5. Both the caller complained of stench from the bags, which were lying on the roadside,” an officer said.

Both the locations fall under the Inderpuri police station.

“The body is being preserved at Safdarjung Hospital mortuary. If nobody comes forward to claim it in the next 72 hours, we will conduct a post mortem,” AK Ojha, DCP (Southwest).

Police are going through missing persons reports to identify the body. “The body is too mutilated for identification. We cannot ascertain details like whether she is married as the only clothing on the body were the undergarments,” an officer said.

Police are yet to narrow in on a motive for the murder, but suspect it could be a case of hate killing.

“When a body is found mutilated like this, it is possible that it was done in anger. It is also possible that the body was mutilated such, so that it is difficult to ascertain the identify of the woman, and, therefore, the perpetrator. The fact that the bags were found in different areas also points to this. But we will investigate all angles,” a senior officer said.
