NEW DELHI: The government could begin the new year on a rocky note with activist Anna Hazare threatening to sit on dharna outside the homes of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi as part of the nationwide ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ .

Speaking after a two-day meeting with other team members , Hazare said he would begin his indefinite fast from December 27 if a strong Lokpal bill was not passed in the winter session and initiate a jail bharo andolan from January 1. This comes a day after the all-party meeting on the issue failed to reach a consensus on contentious issues like the inclusion of citizens’ charter , lower bureaucracy and PM within the Lokpal .

Amid indications that the government may not be able to get the bill passed by December 22, the last day of the Parliament session , Hazare demanded that the session be extended . He said he would lead the agitation in front of the residences of Sonia and Rahul in Delhi and all MPs who oppose the bill.

The activist said he had confidence in Parliament that it would pass the bill as everybody in government had given his team the assurance that it would be done .

“( There will be a consensus ) in Parliament if not at all-party meeting . All MPs are there , it will be passed there … yesterday people put forward right points , some pointed out the deficiencies . Everybody in the government is giving us assurances that we will get a Lokpal bill. So , we should have faith in them . But if they don’t bring it, then we will have to agitate ,” he said.
