Jai Bhagwan (60 kg), Commonwealth games bronze medallist and Vikas krishnan (69 kg), Asian games gold medallist have added to the tally of 2012 Olympics after L Devendro Singh (49 kg) and Manoj Kumar (64 kg). It is the first time when Indian Boxers are going to Olympics, London 2012 Olympics. London will be playing host to the international sporting event for the third time, making it the first city in the world to have done so thrice. The Indian Boxing Federation’s strategy of sending Indian boxers for international tournaments’ in order to give them exposure ahead of the Olympic qualifiers has paid off.

They all have brought their nation honour by becoming the first ever boxers in Indian history to qualify for the Olympic Games. 19-year-old Vikas, secure an Olympic berth with four of the five in the round of 16 powering through to the quarters. Vikas led 5:3 in the first round, 5:2 in the second and emerged triumphant with a total score of 14:7.

Jai took full advantage of his height and long reach against David Joyce of Ireland. The 26-year-old took quick 13:8 lead in the first round. He scored 10 points as opposed to Jai’s 7.

Devendro, playing in the light fly weight division, continued his purple patch at the Championships with another scintillating performance.

Manoj will battle against world number 12 Thomas Stalker of England in the round of eight of the light welter weight division. The 24 year old Indian boxer will have to be on the top of his game to get past Stalker who bagged the gold medal at the 2011 European Championship and 2010 commonwealth games.

Jai Bhagwan will fight against Gani Zhailauov of Kazakhstan while Vikas Krishnan will fight Vasili Belous of Maldova to get place in the semis.
