Jagjit Singh – Ghazal king, passed away at Lilavati Hospital at 8 am today, 10 October, 2011. He was 70-year-old when he died due to brain hemorrhage. He was in coma since 23rd sep. He was not just a singer and composer but also an activist and an entrepreneur. He underwent a brain hemorrhage surgery on 18 September.
Born on 8 February 1941, Singh was a Ghazal maestro and has sung in several languages including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Nepali. He gave his voice in films like Prem Geet and Saath Saath with more than 60 filmy and in various albums. He became a household name.
Singh was the first Indian music director to use the technique of multi-track recording for his album ‘Beyond Time’. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2003. Along with his wife, Chitra Singh, he gain acclaim outside India also. Jagjit Singh continued to be a prolific singer throughout his life.
