Anuradha Bali, or Fiza, the estranged second wife of former Haryana deputy CM Chander Mohan, was found dead at her home in Mohali on Monday. The body was highly decomposed, swollen and was lying in the bedroom. Police suspect she died four to five days ago. Police said the blood on the floor and bed could be because of the blood vessels bursting.

Fiza, 41, married Chander Mohan, son of Haryana politician Bhajan Lal, in 2008. Before the marriage, the minister disappeared suddenly and resurfaced with Fiza by her side. The two had converted to Islam.

The marriage lasted barely 40 days and created such a furore that Chander Mohan was forced to resign.

The cause of Fiza’s death remains a mystery – no suicide note was found and neither did the postmortem report reveal any external injury. “This rules out any struggle before her death. The viscera will be sent for chemical examination,” a police source said.

Darshan Singh Mann, DSP (city), said the body was “infested with maggots”.

Fiza’s legs were folded and one arm was dangling from the bed. The police found a bottle of liquor, glasses, cigarettes and a mouth freshener. Newspapers of several days had not been collected. Fiza, a former assistant advocate general of Haryana, had attempted suicide in 2009 after her separation from Chander Mohan. She lived alone.

After her separation, she tried to get a toehold in the glamour world, appearing as a contestant in the reality show Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao. Fiza’s first marriage was to a Mohali businessman and lasted a year.
