Do you have sore, dry eyes? Herbs and vitamins can help you!

New Delhi: Tired and sore eyes can be a problem for computer users and our eyes are the first place to show the effects of tiredness and stress. Our eyes entail special precautions and the skin around the eyes requires extra care because it`s more fragile than the skin on the rest of your face.

It should not be rubbed or scrubbed hard, as this can stretch the skin too much and help to cause the formation of wrinkles and lines.

The simple act of getting enough sleep will go far to reduce redness and dark circles under the eyes. If you haven`t been getting enough sleep or having a problem of sore, dry eyes, use following vitamins, herbs, and phytonutrients to help alleviate the problems:

Bilberry: Bilberry is used for both gastrointestinal and eye health. The active ingredients are called anthocyanosides, which work as an antioxidant that help improve the flow of blood through the capillaries in eyes. They help eyes adjust quickly to changes in light, and improve sharpness of vision.

Bilberry has also been shown to be effective in stopping the progression of cataracts when taken with vitamin E.

Vitamin A: Vitamin A involved in immune function, vision, reproduction, and cellular communication. It is critical for vision as an essential component of rhodopsin, a protein that absorbs light in the retinal receptors. Vitamin A is important for good night vision and helps preventing cataract.

Grapeseed: Grapseed extracts are derivatives from whole grape seeds that have a great concentration of vitamin E and flavonoids. The flavonoid-rich active compound in grape seed is one of nature`s most potent antioxidant. extract improves blood flow in the eye`s tiny vessels. It also strengthens the capillaries.

Eyebright : Eyebright makes a great home remedy for eyes. Steep it in hot water to let the herb infuse, then remove the herb and cool the remaining liquid. Keep it into the freezer to cool it down. Once its cool, use it as an eye bath, or a compress. It`s great for sore eyes, and has an anti-inflammatory and soothing action.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids: A research has found that taking omega 3 oils reduces the chance of getting dry eyes. Try taking 3 to 6 grams of a good quality fish oil supplement daily.

Lutein: Lutein is one example of a type of plant nutrient known as carotenoids which are responsible for giving fruit and vegetables their distinctive colors. Lutein is found in very high concentrations in the macula of the eye and is used to help prevent macular degeneration, which is a big problem for people over 40 years of age. Macular degeneration can lead to blindness.
