Twitter says 250,000 user accounts hacked

Twitter says 250,000 user accounts hacked

New Delhi: Twitter announced on Friday that a quarter of a million users’ accounts have been hacked in the latest security breach.

Anonymous hackers gained access to roughly 250,000 user accounts which included information like usernames, email addresses, session tokens and encrypted/salted versions of passwords.

Bob Lord, Twitter’s director of information security, wrote in a blog post that “we discovered one live attack and were able to shut it down in process moments later”.

Thus, as a result Twitter has reset passwords for affected users, and will notify them soon. It is to be noted that the cyberattack comes just days after the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal revealed they had been victim of a well-coordinated hacking effort.

“This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident,” Twitter quoted to a news agency. “The attackers were extremely sophisticated, and we believe other companies and organisations have also been recently similarly attacked.”
