Sri Ram Prasad Pemmasani, student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, scored in the 100th percentile in the MBA Common Entrance Test (CAT). In the list of results, declared on Tuesday night, more than a dozen candidates from Tricity scored in the 99th percentile. In the previous year, no student in the Tricity was able to break into the 100th percentile.
This year, apart from the overall improved results, girls also performed better in the CAT, which is not only a gateway for entry into 13 IIMs, but more than 100 colleges across the country. Three female students are among the top seven students from the city. Arushi Jain got 99.97, taking her to the top 30 students across India.
Having a knack in Mathematics, Pemmasani scored in the 99.99 percentile with 221 out of 225 marks in Quantitative Aptitude and Interpretation. While, in verbal availability and logical reasoning he had secured 99.18 percentile with 148 out of 225 marks.
After completing his schooling from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, Pemmasani shifted to Ropar after getting admission in IIT Ropar. He is a final-year student of Electrical Engineering and is now keeping his options open for IIMs. Candidates with 100 percentile are generally offered one of the most sought after MBA course of Strategic Management. “Applying and preparing for IIT was not my decision but my parents. But this was entirely my own decision which I took around six months ago. I knew what I wanted to do and that was the reason I did not sit in the placements at the campus. Otherwise, I could have easily got a good job,” Pemmasani said.
