Shota had graduated from a local university but was unemployed and living a life of unemployment while continuing his relationship with Yukari, the young widow next door. However, when Yukari's pregnancy was discovered, she pressured him to marry her. Shota, who had no intention of getting married in the first place, fled to Tokyo and went to live with his older brother, Yoichi.
