The actress' family took over managing her financial affairs as early as 2020. On November 28, 2022, the actress' contract with her previous company Xitian Film and Television expired. On August 31, 2023, a former employee of Song Zuer filed an allegation with the State Administration of Taxation against the actress for tax evasion and possible fraud in the amount of 45 million RMB. The former employee used their real name, which is rare in whistleblowing cases. Neither Song nor her studio has responded or denied anything.
