Melbourne: Researchers have warned that the toxic chemicals in tattoo ink could penetrate your body and increase your chances of getting cancer.

According to an English daily, a new study has discovered that ink nanoparticles could enter the bloodstream and build up in major organs of the body which can potentially impair their functionality.

The recent research supports a previous study that showed that some tattoo dye contains carcinogens, including cobalt and mercury.

Experts insisted that rules and regulations should be formed for the tattoo industry, similar to those governing the smoking and sunbathing industries.

Desmond Tobin, director of Bradford University’s centre for skin sciences, said that his team needs to do more work, but there is no question that these substances can be toxic.
